Trump bill live: JD Vance casts tie-breaking vote as Senate passes ‘big, beautiful’ bill | The Independent

The Republicans narrowly passed President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” after Vice President JD Vance was forced to break a 50-50 tie. Three Republicans voted against the bill: Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Susan Collins of Maine. The Senate worked through the night on passing the legislation, engaging in a “vote-a-rama” on an unlimited series of amendments. The 940-page policy package, which maps out Trump’s domestic agenda and seeks to slash welfare funding, barely passed the House of Representatives in May. The president has urged his party to push through the bill as a self-imposed July 4 deadline looms, threatening to support primary challengers to any “grandstanders” who resist his demands and dismissing the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office’s warning the bill will add an estimated $3.3 trillion to the $36.2 trillion national debt over the next decade.Analysis: Trump and his ‘One Big, Beautiful Bill’ just put the Senate in play for Democrats ... On the Senate floor, Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said, “Today’s vote will haunt our Republican colleagues for years to come.”Sen. Lisa Murkowski said the process for getting to yes on the vote on the legislation was “agonizing.” · She added that she still has concerns regarding the bill and she lamented the “artificial” July 4 deadline, which she said prompted lawmakers to rush “to get a product out.”“Members are advised that procedural votes are possible throughout the day,” said Emmer. ... OAS Electoral Mission in Jamaica Invites Citizens to Exercise their Right to Vote in the General Elections

The Organization of American States Electoral Observation Mission (OAS/EOM) in Jamaica, led by the former Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Kenny D. Anthony, encourages all registered voters to exercise the right to cast their ballot during the General Elections tomorrow. This right is essential to protecting, strengthening, and guaranteeing Jamaica's commitment to democracy. The Mission also takes this opportunity to recognize in advance the efforts of election day workers, party agents, and security personnel who will facilitate voting. It is crucial that all citizens and stakeholders demonstrate the civil maturity that has characterized this electoral process. From the opening until the closing of the polls, the members of the Mission will observe the vote in polling centers in all 14 parishes of Jamaica. The information gathered, along with the observations the OAS/EOM has collected during its deployment, will allow for the preparation of a report that highlights best practices, as well as areas for improvement and strengthening of the electoral system. This is the fourth (4) OAS Electoral Observation Mission in Jamaica, and it is made possible thanks to the financial contributions of Canada, Chile, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Peru, Spain, Switzerland and the United States.
